College...

So... I went and talked with an advisor at MCC yesterday and found out what I need to do to become a Nurse. I took a bunch of classes before I got married and I didn't know if they would count or not, but I found out they all do. The only thing I HAVE to take is Microbiology over (I got a "D" in it... it was the semester I got married...), but they suggested to take all my Biology's over again, just as a refresher. Then they told me it is about a 3 semester wait for getting into the Nursing Program. This couldn't turn out any better. I have 4 Bio classes to take and 4 semesters before Macee is in Kindergarten. I'm going to take a class this fall semester and take my NET (Nursing Entrance Test) and get all my paperwork completed to apply for Nursing school by the end of the fall semester. That will give me about 3 semesters to finish my Bio's and then I can work towards my degree. At that time my little Macee will be in school full-time and I can not feel guilty for taking time for me. I think that Heavenly Father knows that this was the perfect time for me to start back, seeing as it is all falling smoothly into place. I'm excited and scared for this opportunity, but I know it is a step that I need to take. Just thought I would share my news!

I don't like mustard...

OK... so tonight after FHE I went with Fawn & Devon Mortensen to his parent's house to go swimming. After we were done we went inside for a few minutes and his dad comes in with a bottle of mustard. He told Devon to squirt me with the mustard... I told him I don't like mustard... then he proceeds to open the bottle and squirt!!! I flinched and closed my eyes and was kinda mad... but when I looked down it wasn't really mustard... it was just water! Heehee... the jokes on me! So anyways, this post is for Devon because he commented I haven't posted in like 3 weeks... so Devon here's a post for you and thanks for the laugh!

HULALOOPING!!!

The other night we went to see Baby Mama (BTW... funniest movie...) with Fawn & Devon and we all needed to go to Walmart after for last minute things before Sunday. So there it was 1130pm and we found hulahoops... I haven't hulahooped since I was a kid, so... being in a crazy mood... I decided to try. Fawn whips out her camera and catches us on video. It was so much fun and we laughed so hard. I kept getting light-headed from the slow hulahoop. I swear, you had to go in slow-motion with this one hulahoop. I hope you all enjoy this video...

No more diapers at the Melsers!!!

I'm so excited! Macee finally decided last Tuesday that it was time to be potty-trained and that was the end of diapers!!! She went pee in the potty before we left to go Visiting Teaching and when we got to Fawn's house Gunnar was sitting on the potty until he went poop. Well after he went Macee said to him, "you go poop in the potty like me"... and I was all "you don't poop in the potty." Well... that day she went poop in the potty and had only 1 accident. And then the rest of the week she did great. Since last Tuesday she only has had 4 accidents (2 of which were at my mom's house last night while playing with her cousins outside). I think that qualifies us as potty-trained. I started to stress about getting her potty-trained, but then I remembered that when my other kids were ready to be potty trained they were pretty much done... no running to the bathroom every 20-30 minutes. They did it all on their own. Well my patience has paid off and Macee has followed in the footsteps of her older siblings! Life is great at our house! YEA!!! I'm so proud of you Macee!

Pat's Run

So Chuck finally talked me into doing a Run with him. We have done Pat's Run in the past, but I did the walk part. I have never been a runner, but for the sake of my hubby, because this is something he enjoys, I decided to go for it. My only stipulation was that I got to pick the pace and I could walk when I needed to and get running again when I was ready. So I set myself a goal in mind that I wanted to finish the run in under 60 min (this is a 4.2 mile course) and Chuck gave us a stretch goal of 50 min. At the 1st mile marker we were at 11 min... I thought OK I can do this... and then mile marker 2 we were around 23 min... I'm gonna make it... So we just kept going and mile marker 3 I think we were at 36 min... no problem ending by 60 min... the last mile was probably the hardest for me but I finished (at 52 min) and I felt GREAT!!! I'm sore now, but I think I will participate in more runs... probably only 5k's for now. But I felt a sense of accomplishment. One of those NSV (non-scale victories) I can celebrate!

Thanks Chuck for pushing me and being there for me!

YOU ARE THE GREATEST! LOVE YOU!

Hummm... something to think about!

OK... so Chuck forwarded an e-mail this morning and it made me think. So I wanted to share with all you out there what it said...
This is from the "thinkarete.com" website... It's a great site to check out....
E. M. Gray wrote one of my favorite essays (it's free on the site in the "wisdom" section!). It's called "The Common Denominator of Success."
The Big Idea?"
The successful person has the habit of doing the things failures don't like to do* They don't like doing them either necessarily. But their disliking is subordinated to the strength of their purpose."
Wow.Making the phone call they need to make. Having the conversation they need to have. Doing the little thing they don't "feel" like doing. Getting up early. Working out. Whatever.
Done. Done. Done. Done. Done. Done.
What are you not doing simply b/c you don't feel like it?
So this week was week 2 weigh-in for our Biggest Loser challenge. I was feeling frustrated because I only lost 2.5 lbs. The same as the last week when I didn't workout and took 2 days off of counting POINTS (Weight Watchers). I thought to myself why keep up with the working out and being perfect on the weekend with my eating. But then I remembered that I'm working hard and 2.5 lbs is an awesome weight loss, especially as I am towards the end of my journey. I'm feeling stronger and that is very important. As I was doing the Fly machine this morning at the gym I was looking in the mirror (you know how gyms have walls of mirrors... you can't help but look at yourself while working out) and I noticed how much definition I have in my arms. I still have a long ways to go to get them all trimmed and beautiful, (mostly need to get rid of the sagging skin of my tricep area and some excess fat around my muscles...) but I finally noticed a difference in me. My arms are my trouble spot (according to me) on my body so I have been focusing on them for the past little bit and I'm finally seeing results. Anyways, I just want you all to think about this quote I posted and think of something in your life that you really don't like to do, but you know that the purpose (or even the result/reward) would be worth it. Honestly I don't enjoy going to the gym, but I'm sure enjoying the results that are coming for going often. OK- this post wasn't going to be this long or even go into this detail, but it was what was on my mind and I thought I would share.

Spring Break 2008

Our Spring Break Trip...

Better late than never, right??? So we went to Disneyland with our very best friends... the Mortensens! We were in California from Saturday to the next Saturday. We spent 5 fabulous days at Dineyland and California Adventures and then one day at the beach. It was so much fun to go and spend time with them there. We drove over Chuck's parents 10 passenger van so we could all ride together. I drove with Fawn as my navigator and Chuck and Devon sat right behind us and they read New Moon aloud for most of the trip. (One of the pics is of them reading...) We stayed at a motel about 10 minutes form Disneyland and had rooms right next to each other. This will definately be a trip that we will never forget. It's fun to make memories with people that mean a lot to you!
Thank you Mortensen's for being our friends!!!
